In a brand new video uploaded to his personal YouTube channel, Jacob “Spilo” Clifton has accused the Saudi organization 01 Esports of paying him.
In the video Spilo notes that he did not want any of the prize money the team was paid out, but did charge his standard coaching/consulting fee which equaled out to $90 according to a tweet he sent out responding to the video. Spilo said:
“It’s not just about the money, it’s about the whole ethical thing about it. It doesn’t matter if they owed me $10. You don’t ghost people and do the wrong thing.”
He does note that he has reached out to some people within the organization, but said it’s ultimately something related to the higher ups within the company.
Interestingly, Spilo also notes that he has been in contact with others who have been apart of 01 Esports in the past who have also stated privately they have never been paid by the organization as well. Since the video went live, other players and staff members have come forward to note how much they are owed. This included Waddi, Mercury, and Kellex.
01 Esports most recently competed in Season 2 of the Saudi eLeagues and finished the season in first place winning a little over $42,000 in prize money after just 9 days of competitive play.
