In a now locked post on the GameStop subreddit, there are conversations that some Gamestop associates could be going on strike due to employees being chewed out by higher up management for only achieving an average accounting measurement of sales and performance. Some are even going as far as to demand a union contract.
When Camelot331 reached out to a source to see what the company would do, they said that the company would fire all participants and implied that they would almost encourage it since it would be a huge cost-cutting measure. Stating:
Okay so the plan we have is pretty simple. We will terminate anyone that participates immediately. Even if it was every store in the US. Statistically not everyone would participate in the walk out. So those people, GA’s SGA’s and ASL’s would be promoted over night. The people that do participate would lose all benefits and get nothing.
I’ll be honest. GameStop executives would actually love that to happen. If every SL in the company walked out. GameStop would save a ton of money moving up the other associates at a MUCH lower pay.
It is something that has never happened and I don’t think will, but that’s the plan. Just term everyone who does it.
If it did happen all the execs would laugh hysterically. Just being honest.
At the time of publishing, no walkout has taken place among GameStop employees.
