Days Gone Developer Reveals Sony Asked Him To Reboot Syphon Filter

As noted in our The Game That Never Was series, it’s very common for a developer to attempt to propose a game to a publisher and get turned down. However, it’s not often that the a company like Sony attempt to do this and get rejected.

In a recent sit down with David Jaffe, Days Gone Game Director Jeff Ross revealed that after being rejected a a sequel to the game, Sony Interactive Entertainment asked that he reboot the classic Syphon Filter franchise.

“It was just an ask: ‘are there any other IPs that we have that we can use? But honestly, I have zero ideas on how to reboot Syphon Filter. I was not interested in that at all.”

“It was almost like a ‘keep them busy’ type of question: ‘hey guys, why don’t you come up with something for Syphon Filter while we figure out what we’re confident in pitching’. So I don’t think it was ever genuine.”

Syphon Filter was a popular third-person shooting franchise that first launched on the original Playstation back in 1999 with critical acclaim by both fans and critics. Six games in the franchise were made with the last one being Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow in 2007.
