According to a tweet by the General Supervisor of Videogames Classification at General Commission of Audiovisual Media (GCAM) Hattan Tawili, Final Fantasy XVI could be banned in many parts of the middle east due to “the company’s complete refusal to modify the content to suit the region.”
While nothing has 100% been confirmed, Xel has said this is very likely to be directly related to LGBTQ content in the game. Rumors have also suggested that one of the playable protagonist, Dion, is gay and has some suggestive scenes within the game.
Final Fantasy XVI launches on June 22 exclusively for Playstation 5.
