Unnamed sources for ET News in Korea that Samsung have agreed to manufacture AMD’s next graphics cards under the codename Greenland starting in Q2 2016. It’s speculated that the chip will be produced using second-generation 14nm FinFET LPP processing.
The report also mentioned that Samsung and GlobalFoundries will also begin producing AMD’s Zen CPU once Greenland enters production which will also be using 14nm LPP processing. This Zen CPU will be set to launch in October 2016.
Engadget was also quick to note that if Samsung producing AMD chips is true, then AMD may actually get ahead of Intel in the CPU market. This is because Samsung is expected to ship even more energy efficient and faster 10nm chips by 2016, while Intel’s 10nm chips won’t be released until 2017.
Neither AMD nor Samsung have confirmed these reports.
