Update x2: Image is confirmed to be from an upcoming game by 612 Games titled Wild West Online.
Update: NeoGAF user SneakersSO believes this image is part of an upcoming marketing asset from a press kit that is being prepared. Sneakers said “This most likely be a marketing asset if it is a leak, most likely from some press kit that is being prepared or might be going out soon. The set dressing around the buildings just looks lower than the stuff seen in the RDR2 trailer, but that could be because its a different environment. Hard to make a call either way on this. Also, OP – the crossed legs in the trailer and in the ‘leak’ are not the pose – right leg is bent in one of them, straight in the other.”
Original: A leaked off-screen screenshot of Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 has leaked onto GTAforums. Many seem to be split on if it’s a fake or not and have been trying to analyze the photo in detail. Some have compared this screenshot to the teaser trailer and have noticed some similarities such the legs/leaning animation. Others are analyzing the lighting effects that Rockstar Games is known for.
It’s also worth mentioning that at one point modders were making a Red Dead Redemption mod for GTA that got shut down by Rockstar, and texturing and lighting changes throughout development as seen with many comparison trailers. Rockstar has also pushed screens on the GTAForums in the past. Some also believe the lack of a HUD could mean a first-person view much like the next-gen versions of Grand Theft Auto V.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is in development for Playstation 4 and Xbox One and will release in Fall 2017.
