Earlier today it was announced that Microsoft would be opening up their Xbox Live service to Cross Platform Multiplayer to work with Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft PCs. Rocket League has been announced as the first game to feature this much requested option. Having this feature opened up could allow for a much more united gaming community throughout the three major gaming platforms. Gamers across the world will no longer feel as though they have to pick one over the other in favor of what their friends are playing anymore. Although, they haven’t said how many games will be supported for this or how it will unfold. Either way this is a monumental step for an interesting future for gaming, whether or not that is forward or backwards is yet to be seen. I am very interested in seeing how this will play out for games like The Division, Destiny, Grand Theft Auto Online, Elder Scrolls Online, and so on (Even their predecessors.). Knowing that Sony owns the early access to weapons, armor, and strikes in Destiny how would that play out in cross platform? Same for The Division for giving Xbox users content thirty days in advance. Will the exclusivity remain? Could we see Halo, Forza, Uncharted, Bloodbourne all finally be cross platform with no exclusivity? There are a lot of questions up in the air currently so we would love to hear what you have to say about this! Leave a comment in the section below as to what you think Cross Platform Multiplayer will bring to the table for gaming’s future.
