During their recent third-quarter earnings call, EA CFO Blake Jorgensan that both the Xbox One and Playstation 4 have sold 55 million units around the world. What makes this interesting and bad for Microsoft is that Sony regularly reports sales of the Playstation 4. This past January, Sony revealed that 35.9 million Playstation 4s have been sold since launch. If both EA and Sony’s numbers are true, than that means that Microsoft have only sold 19.1 million Xbox One units.
Jorgensan said on the conference call..
“I think our business seems to be operating pretty consistent as it has been over the last couple of years. The console purchases are up through the end of calendar year 2015. Our estimate is 55m units out there, which has exceeded virtually everyone’s forecast for the year and now almost 50% higher than previous console cycle so, all of that is very, very positive.”
To Microsoft’s credit, they have focused lately on unifying both consoles and PCs with the amount of Xbox One titles that are compatible with Windows 10.
The Guardian reached out to Microsoft for comment, but did not reply.
