Huge news in the world of competitive Overwatch that Good Game Esports Academy, the academy team of the Houston Outlaws, have dropped out of Overwatch Contenders Trials. This was confirmed by Second Wind coach Thomas “maid” Mok who said that all teams have been granted a free win.
According to sources for The Bench Mob, the organization missed the deadline for roster submissions and had their request to push back the deadline denied. It’s also said that there has been a “hiring freeze” within parent company Infinite Esports & Entertainment with upcoming staff changes being the “the root cause” of the issue.
Others have said the contract negotiations have been extremely mishandled with multiple sources for TBM saying that the entire Last Night’s Leftovers’ roster was going to be acquired by GGEA. One source said that player trials were held and contract negotiations were completed, but the paperwork was still being filed.
It’s also being said that all communications between both organizations stopped after one player who was said to be “GGEA’s primary target all along” signed with another organization after waiting for upwards of four weeks for a contract only to never receive them. Some have speculated this player to be former DPS player Corey “Sit“ Scoda who recently joined Second Wind or former coach Mikael “mkL” Skjønhaug.
