The Atari 5200 has one of the most interesting histories of any console to ever hit the market. What is outstanding was that it was meant to be a successor to the Atari 2600, but flopped. This led to its predecessor to continue to dominate the console market for a little while longer.
A prototype for the Atari 5200 game Basketball has surfaced online and is now for sale on eBay. The seller is Canyon Fisher of PixelBiscuit Records and is able to show proof for skeptics. Fisher, along with Tempest from AtariProtos.com was able to document the history of the prototype on both AtariProtos and AtariAge. This is the first time since 1998 that the prototype has been put up for sale.
The current asking price is $499.
