As confirmed by Digital Eclipse president Mike Mika, long time industry veteran Mike Berlyn has passed away at the age of 73.
Starting his career back in 1981, Berlyn started his career developing games for the Apple II computer. Over the span of his career, Berlyn worked on many titles such as Tass Times in Tonetown, Altered Destiny, and Syphon Filter.
Most will probably remember his best as the creator of Bubsy the Bobcat who debuted in 1993 at the peak of developers trying to create their own mascots off the success of the Super Mario Brothers and Sonic the Hedgehog. Bubsy has since gone on to become one of the most infamous video game mascot characters with the 1996 game Bubsy 3D being considered one of the worst video games of all time.
