China are looking to tackle an ongoing issue with minors being addicted to video games by implementing new laws that will issue both time limits and curfews for gamers under the age of 18.
These new laws will ban minors from playing online games between 10 pm and 8 am. Minors will also only be able to play 90 minutes of online games during the week and 3 hours per day on weekends and holidays.
This is three of six measures being taken by the government. Others include players entering “valid identity information” to register an account, making game companies supervise players more, and training parents and teachers to work with kids on their online habits.
While these changes could have an impact on those who become addicted to video games, others have speculated that it could cause problems for some Chinese esports organizations as many academy teams feature prominent players who are minors.
