One of the biggest controversies in the gaming world right now is the Coleco Chameleon. The Chameleon has faced its fair share of criticism after the prototype on display at the New York Toy Fair was called out as a fake. Today the RetroVGS team posted images of a new prototype on Facebook, sporting a clear case with the internals in clear view. Much like the Toy Fair prototype, the retro gaming community quickly identified the clear prototype as a clear fake.
The community over at AtariAge quickly identified that the board shown inside the prototype is not that of a gaming console. In fact, the board seen inside the prototype is actually a HICAP50B CCTV DVR Capture Card, as you can see by the comparison on the left. The comparison image quickly started spreading across social media and retro gaming communities and the RetroVGS team quickly pulled the original image from their official Facebook page, leaving other images up that don’t show the internals of the device in another clear damage control move. In addition to pulling the original image, the RetroVGS team is apparently deleting comments on the original post.
This marks the third time the project has been called out since the project was first announced, and the second time in just the past few weeks. So far, the RetroVGS team has not commented on the most recent controversy [H/T AtariAge]
