GameStop Development Manager Jeffrey Barnes confirmed this morning via Twitter that former GameStop CEO Paul Raines has passed away. Raines resigned from his position last month to focus on his health and spend time with his family due to issues with a cancerous tumor.
Raines had a battle with cancer back in 2014 after finding a brain tumor. Surgery removed the tumor and took preventative chemotherapy afterwards. Sadly, the cancer came back and ultimately took his life.
Paul Raines has been apart of the company since 2010 and saw many changes within the industry including the launch of the eight-generation consoles, rise of digital sales, and the acquisition of ThinkGeek.
