Shaw and Rogers Cable have confirmed that G4 Canada will be shutting down on September 1, 2017. This comes almost 3 years after G4 in the United States shut down.
The channel originally started as TechTV back in September 1, 2001 and was a joint venture between Rogers Media, Shaw Communications and TechTV US. The program later merged with G4 in 2004. While US feed merged with G4, the Canadian one became G4TechTV, and later just G4.
According to the CRTC, G4 Canada had 1.4 million subscribers in 2015 with a 35% drop off in viewership compared to 2014. The channel has never been able to recover since.
G4 will always be remembered for some great shows including X-Play, Attack of the Show, G4 Icons, Cheat!, and Arena.
