GameStop Closes Majority Of Stores Across Europe

As confirmed by a GameStop employee over on the official GameStop subreddit, the company has decided to close all stores within Austria and Switzerland and around 50% of all stores within Germany. The post read:

The part-time employee revealed that all store managers were notified to be on a call by their Regional Managers to be notified an someone brought registered mail notifying employees they had all been laid off.

Switzerland and Austria is completely gone now and in germany only 1/2 of the stores will remain

Today the Area Manager just said „all store managers join this call“ 1h later my Fiancee told me some weird guy was at our door with an „important package“ just for me but i didnt order smth

30 minutes later our ASM came and said the same guy was at his door (he brought the layoff by registered mail)

I was just a temp worker but i feel so bad for all the employees that did so much for this company

Rumors have also been circulating that the company could be closing even more stores within North America after the holiday season as leases for the retail spaces expire. Some have speculated that the total stores in the company could be around 2,000 by the end of Q1 2023.
