In a recent interview with Yle.fi, Housemarque co-founder and CEO Ilari Kuittinen revealed that Sony Interactive Entertainment were not the only company interested in purchasing equity for their company. Kuittinen said:
“Usual Suspects, i.e. major players in the field from China, Sweden and the United States. I have to say that there is a very special spring behind us and the fact that we have been competing even feels a little surreal. In our discussions, it became clear that Sony wanted to buy us because we are doing something that others are not doing. Their starting point has not been that we would start making games according to the formula defined by Sony.”
While no specific names were mentioned, many have speculated that one of the companies is Chinese company Tencent which has been acquiring equity for several companies over the years. This includes Bluehole, Epic Games, Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, Kakao, Yager, and Funcom.
