Interview: Devolver Digital Talks Minit

Just last week Devolver Digital announced a new game called Minit and instantly took the video game world by storm. With a concept consisting of 60 second adventures and a development team that is considered by many to be a supergroup, we just had to learn more about the game. Good thing we were attending PAX South and Devolver Digital just happened to be there.

We spoke with Nigel Lowrie of Devolver Digital at PAX South to learn more about Minit.

Gaming Conviction: Since it’s played sixty seconds at a time does that mean the game will consist of short time period quests?
Nigel Lowrie: Minit focuses on wonder and exploration, all within these sixty second windows of adventure. The demo sort of illustrates how small quests, puzzles and secrets could work within the parameters of that time limit but as the game progresses it will become less and less linear.

GC: Who came up with the idea to play sixty seconds at a time?
NL: Minit is actually made by four folks – Kitty Calis, Jan Willem Nijman, Jukio Kallio & Dominik Johann.

GC: Who is the character we play as?
NL: The character doesn’t have a name really and I don’t believe that will ever be addressed through the adventure.

GC: Are we playing on the coast or perhaps an island?
NL: The game world starts near the coast – as you can see in the demo – but eventually expands into different areas of this world.

GC: Are there plans for a console release?
NL: Minit is definitely coming to PC and we hope to bring it to consoles but nothing definitive at the moment.

GC: What kind of emotions do you hope players take away while experiencing Minit?
NL: As I mentioned before, the dev team hopes that at its heart Minit will be a game about wonder and exploration and hope that players will experience and appreciate this great care and attention to detail in the world.
