The latest issue of EDGE magazine is now available in Europe and some nice people over on ResetEra have transcribed an interview with Sega’s Chief Creative Officer Toshihiro Nagoshi.
During part of the interview Nagoshi discussed F-Zero GX and the experience his team at Sega’s subdivision Amusement Vision had. Nagoshi surprisingly revealed that the development team pitched ideas for a Metroid title to Nintendo, but all were ultimately declined. Stating:
“I really liked the Super Famicom game, and while we made a few proposals – Metroid for instance, and others – I was most confident in making a driving game because of my experience in the genre, though I’d never make a sci-fi one.”
Amusement Vision made several titles throughout their short four-year tenure as a company including Virtua Striker 3, Daytona USA 2001, F-Zero GX, and Super Monkey Ball.
