Prices for Microsoft’s Project Scorpio has been rampant for some time. Now with the latest rumor stemming from XtraLife’s pricing of 399 Euros, it has just added more fuel to the fire. With so many things with the Sony vs Microsoft console wars coming in just the past couple of days, this Scorpio price doesn’t actually seem as crazy and some believe it to be. Here’s why a retail price of $399.99 is entirely plausible.
First, we have to go back to April 18. Sony announced they will be releasing a 1TB version of the Playstation 4 Slim later this month for $299. Since the announcement, Amazon has already dropped the price of the 500GB PS4 Slim down to just $250. This would mean that by the end of the year we could see the Playstation 4 pro at 3 different tiers; a 500GB $250 version, 1TB $299 version, and the PS4 Pro at $399.
With this sudden announcement Microsoft could be planning on doing the same thing with their Xbox One lineup. We currently have the price of the 500GB Xbox One S Battlefield 1 bundle for $299, 1TB Xbox One S Forza Horizon 3 bundle for $349, and a rumored Scorpio launch price of $399.
Based on these comparisons Microsoft could easily drop the prices even more to match the prices of the Playstation 4. It’s plausible that during the holidays we could see Xbox One S start at $250 for the 500GB version and include a game for the same price in order to outperform Sony. Now we don’t know what all will be released before the end of this year, but since we did see a tech demo of Forza during the announcement of Scorpio, it’s possible that we could see Horizon 3 or a Forza 7 bundled with Scorpio as part of a Holiday bundle.
Of course, since this $399 price isn’t 100% confirmed, we will have to wait until E3 2017 before we can make any types of guesses.
