In somewhat of a surprise move Blizzard Entertainment have announced they will be rolling out some of their titles to Steam with the first title being Overwatch 2.
Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment, said in a press release:
“It’s our goal at Blizzard to listen to players and try to exceed their expectations in everything we do,” said Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment. “While Battle.net remains a priority for us now and into the future, we’ve heard players want the choice of Steam for a selection of our games, starting with Overwatch 2 on August 10th. We’re happy to work with Valve to make that happen.”
To play Overwatch 2 on Steam, players will still need a Battle.net account connected to the game. The Steam version will support Steam achievements and friends lists, including the ability to invite friends to play in-game.
While other games will be coming to the platform “when the time is right,” this hasn’t stop people from speculating other popular PC title franchises such as Diablo or Starcraft could also be added.
