Overwatch Loot Boxes Going Away On August 30

Blizzard Entertainment have confirmed that Overwatch players will no longer be able to purchase loot boxes effective August 30. This is due to the upcoming release of Overwatch 2 as the game will be dropping the loot box concept once the game launches as well as making the original Overwatch title no longer playable.

Any unopened loot boxes in a players’ account will automatically be opened for them prior to the launch of Overwatch 2 with all cosmetics being transferred over to the sequel.

Overwatch 2 is scheduled for release on October 4.
