Back in 2019 we reported that several Overwatch players who competed in Overwatch Contenders: North America had not been paid six months after the season ended. Now it seems that Blizzard Entertainment might not have learned from their mistakes.
Overwatch pro Damien “Dank“ Ryding took to Twitter to say that he has still not been paid from his time competing in The Gauntlet back in December 2020.
The version Dank competed in was Overwatch Contenders 2020: The Gauntlet: Asia which featured the top four teams from China, top two teams from South Korea, two teams from a Closed Qualifier in Korea, the top team from Australia, and the winners of Overwatch ACE 2020.
Dank competed in the event as the Main Tank for First Fabulous Fighter who unfortunately did not make it out of the Group Stage going 0-3 with a 1-9 map record. Despite this, the team still won a total payout of $3,000.
It’s currently unknown if other players or teams have still yet to receive their payouts from the event. First Fabulous Fighters have also been accused in the past of not paying their players and forging player signatures on contracts prior to their disbanding back in July 2021. However, it’s still unknown if these accusations are true and if this is a reason for the alledged nonpayment. The total payout for The Gauntlet: Asia was $150,000.
