On New Years Day we published an article regarding Overwatch pro Damien “Dank“ Ryding stating they have not been paid for his participation in The Gauntlet, a tournament ran by Blizzard Entertainment back in December 2020. Now more information has been revealed by one of his fellow pro players.
Retired Overwatch pro Carter “Carter“ Smith replied to Dank’s original Twitter post to reveal that participants in Overwatch Contenders are not allowed to file a class-action lawsuit against Blizzard Entertainment while also recommending to file for arbitration. Carter said:
If you file for arbitration now, not only will you make even more money, you’ll also be the first player to actually do so. You can get the money they owe you and honestly a good bit more.
Note that you cannot sue them, it’s in the contenders contract. All legal disputes must be handled via separate instances of arbitration (basically all contenders players cannot come together for a class action suit because they made us agree to it.)
Let me know if you want to go this route and I’ll pay the cost of getting a lawyer to look over/file for arbitration because whoever is handling payments at p2p **really** needs to be more thorough and frankly has only been good in my experience while Kayla Glover was around.
Kayla Glover served as the Lead for Overwatch Contenders North America from November 2019 through January 2021.
