Microsoft have released the specs for Project Scorpio and they are very impressive by console standards.
Project Scorpio will feature a CPU with eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz, a GPU with 40 customised compute units at 1172MHz, 12GB GDDR5 RAM, 326GB/s memorybandwidth, 1TB 2.5-inch hard drive, and a 4K UHD Blu-ray optical drive.
For comparison, the Playstation 4 Pro features anEight Jaguar cores clocked at 2.1GHz CPU, 36 improved GCN compute units at 911MHz GPU, 8GB GDDR5 RAM, 218GB/s memory bandwidth, 1TB 2.5-inch hard drive, and a Blu-ray optical drive.
This announcement was done in cooperation with Digital Foundry and Microsoft did not provide an official name or price. Digital Foundry believes it will cost $499.
Microsoft also showed Digital Foundry Project Scorpio running a ForzaTech demo which is a stress test based on the Forza Motorsport 6 engine, running the maximum number of cars around a track with dynamic weather and “all the bells and whistles” turned on. Project Scorpio only used 60 to 70 percent of its resources for this higher resolution demo
