Huge news out of Japan this morning as Nikkei, a famous japanese publication, is reporting that the upcoming Nintendo console codenamed ‘NX’ will be using an operating system based on the Android operating system. The publication that a “certain party of interest” is their source for this news.
It is rather interesting as Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has stated in the past that the company has planned on using operating systems that are inspired by Google’s Android OS and Apple’s iOS. Iwata released this statement awhile back…
“Apple is able to release smart devices with various form factors one after another because there is one way of programming adopted by all platforms. Apple has a common platform called iOS. Another example is Android. Though there are various models, Android does not face software shortages because there is one common way of programming on the Android platform that works with various models. Nintendo platforms should be like those two examples.”
Keep in mind that we are still classifying this as a RUMOR and nothing has been confirmed. However, Nikkei has been known to be correct on numerous occasions when it comes to Nintendo.
