It’s officially the end of an era as Korean organization RunAway have announced they are disbanding their Overwatch team with Flowervin and Runner both admitting that two of the large factors included the move from Twitch to YouTube and COVID-19.
RunAway have been one of the most beloved and recognized teams in all of esports. Dating back to its formation in 2016. The owners had their team move into an apartment together and had so much support from their fans that many donated resources including a dishwasher to help them pursue their dreams.
After being cursed for always making it to the grand finals but coming up short, the team managed to win Contenders 2018 Season 2: Korea against Kongdoo Panthera. This match alone has gone on to be considered the best matchup in Overwatch history. This entire roster were eventually signed by the Vancouver Titans where they continued their domination in the Overwatch League.
It is worth noting that the team is on hiatus and could come back once Overwatch 2 is released. Runner notes:
“We don’t know what will happen later on. Life is unpredictable, it is possible we can come back, but for now, I think it is best if we put a pause to things. Stop for now. Perhaps it’s better to wait until something else comes along.”
