According to a new report by The Washington Post, Twitch was found to have a “Do Not Ban” list. This was found after some more digging into the recent mega-leak of Twitch data.
A former employee of Twitch told the Post:
“The ‘Do not ban’ list was more like a ‘Do not ban this channel for x’ [list]. [It was] basically a way to add a red notification on reports against [a] channel to make the admins working on reports aware that there are some agreements in place or that the channel is allowed to do certain things. Often it was used to allow what we now call IRL streams.”
Some of the names that pop up are current and former Twitch staff such as djWHEAT and Sarbandia. Other streamers found included shartqueefa, timothylol, warcraftontwitch, Ricegum, and loltyler1.
Another former employee said of both loltyler1 and Ricegum:
“I do remember RiceGum and Tyler1 both being given way more grace than they should have been,” the former Twitch employee said. “And if one of us admins reported them [to the partner conduct team] anyway, we were told to kick rocks and pay attention to the do not ban list. … It wasn’t quite a ‘get out of jail free’ card, but there were clearly some streamers who got treated with more chances or abilities than others.”
Interestingly to some, names such as Alinity and Amouranth were not found on the list. It is worth noting however that other employees in the report said that the list is around 5 years out of date.
