According to a new report by the UNI Global Union, 79% of games industry workers surveyed supported unionization while 15% were neither for nor against, and 6% voted against it.
Containing participants from 29 countries, a majority of them noted they have had issues with low pay. Of the participants in Europe alone, 77% of them reported having an issue with low pay. 46% of women and 43% of non-binary respondents in Europe also said gender discrimination as an issue in the industry.
Christy Hoffman, general secretary at UNI Global Union, said in the report:
“This ground-breaking report reveals global trends of recurrent employee dissatisfaction that make working in the digital entertainment industry unfair, unequal and unsustainable for many workers. Video games workers are coming to Berlin to deliver a strong message to the titans of the sector: it’s time to fight for our rights — we are going union.”
